Being a cultural ambassador is a serious
roll for you. It is going to depend on you, the expectations that you are going
to create on the kids and the impressions you want to make too. It´s not only about yourself, but also about your
country. Since you are going to have the
chance to meet a lot of people, try to do your best to show who you are and
where you come from. Sometimes, people have never heard about El Salvador, for real!
You must have a map to explain where El Salvador is located.
At the school, the teachers and the whole community love that you interact with them and the pupils. They love that you talk about your country, your family, and your hobbies. They want to know everything about you!
In my case, I did all I could to talk about
my country. I showed the kids my family and my friends. I introduced them not only our traditional
food but also, the places they should go if one day they come to El Salvador. Moreover, I tried
to teach them traditional songs- forklore- like El Carbonero, which is consider our
second anthem, and some of our games. The most excited part was that nobody said that they didn’t
want to try the new things I taught them. Now, I feel full of joy because I am sure I made a difference on those kids.
This was one of the best activities I did in first grade. The kids sang this song to their parents as well.
One of the most important things of being a TA is that you share you culture and interact with the whole school community. Here are some links of some presentations I did.
